Olson takes reigns of restaurant

A new but familiar face has reopened the restaurant located next to the Quilt Inn and Suites on Lake Metigoshe. .

Sandy Olson, who managed the restaurant about four or five years ago, has jumped back in to revitalize the facility, which has sat idle for more than the past year. Olson said she missed the people and received prompting to get back into the business from a number of locals.

"A lot of the locals said they were missing not having it open and asked if I would be interested," Olson said. "My whole family has been involved in the restaurant business at one time or another, and I think cooking is just in my blood.

"It was kind of a last-minute decision to get back into it, but we wanted to get open as soon as we could. We had some cleaning to do since it sat empty for more than a year, but opening this time of year should let us build up our inventory and slowly get back into it."

The restaurant will be called the Rest Stop and will feature noon specials, homemade pies and desserts, and home-cooking with friendly service, according to Olson. She said the menu is still being evaluated, and a Sunday buffet may be on the horizon. The restaurant will also do catering.

"We want people to just show up for the good food and friendly

service," Olson said. "There is a lot of work going in the area, and I just hope all of the people who said they would support us, actually come in."

For now, Olson said five employees are on the payroll, but that

number could increase with increased business.

The new hours for the Rest Stop will be from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Sunday, with expanded hours possible, Olson said.
