Frieda Brandt Tolstad

Funeral services for Frieda Brandt Tolstad, age 93, of West-hope, North Dakota, were held on Saturday, August 29, 2009, at First Presbyterian Church in Westhope.

Burial was at the Peace Reformed Cemetery near Upham. Frieda passed away on Monday, August 24, 2009, at Westhope nursing home.

Officiating at the service was the Reverend John Scott. Darlene Cameron was the organist.

Casket bearers were Jim Davis, Nathan Davis, Randy Gust, Craig Gust, Trevor Gust and Tanner Gust.

Frieda Brandt Tolstad, a daughter of John and Eva (Boschee) Fitchner, was born on October 6, 1915, at Deering, North Dakota. On May 9, 1933, she married Nathaniel Brandt. They lived in Deering for three years before moving to a farm near Kramer in 1936. They lived there for 36 years. Nathaniel passed away in August 30, 1972. On June 15, 1976, she married Melvin Tolstad. They made their home in Westhope. Melvin passed away on April 24, 2007.

Frieda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Westhope. She enjoyed gardening, embroidering, crocheting and baking homemade bread.

She is survived by her daughter. Luella (Alfred) Gust of Minot: three grandchildren, Nancy (Jim) Davis, Randy (Joan) Gust, and Craig (Wendy) Gust all of Minot; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John, Jacob, Fred and August, and sisters, Eva Fitchner, Mary Fouch and Kathryn Brandt.

The family prefers that memorials be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Westhope.

Arrangements were with Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau.
