DRUE TEBBS-MEEK 548-6901, At the time of this writing, people are considering starting their furnaces, but the weather report for the rest of the week still seems hopeful. Gardens are flourishing and flowers are shining with beauty in the lovely season of fall. As you approach Powell, there is a field of sunflowers standing tall and bright that looks almost like a painting. Peaches, pears, jams and jellies are being canned and the produce from the earth is wonderful and fresh. There's nothing like a homegrown tomato. It is a luscious treat.

In the LDS "Church News" on Aug. 24, there was an article concerning a native of Lovell. Cheryl A. Esplin of Utah has been called as second counselor in the Primary general presidency of the LDS Church.

She was born Oct. 3, 1944, to Mildred Sylvia Stable and Orson Harris Asay. She was raised in Lovell and graduated from Lovell High School. She then went to BYU and majored in elementary education.

She met and married Max Esplin in 1967 and together they raised their five children and at the present time have 18 grandchildren with one on the way. Her husband was called into service during the Vietnam War and while he was serving, she returned to Wyoming and taught fifth grade for two years.

Though they lived in the city, they both remembered growing up in farming communities and they had to find ways to teach their children to work by having them mow lawns in the summer or shoveling sidewalks in the winter. The Esplins enjoyed working to gether as a family. By doing projects together, they taught their children the importance of hard work as well as forming strong family relationships.

"I truly believe that my joy is to hear that my children walk in truth," Mrs. Esplin said. "That is my hope, and now that extends to children all over the world."

The weekend of Aug. 20 was special for the late C. Golden Welch family as they gathered together for a family reunion in Utah. The event was hosted by the Art and Mary Whitney Welch segment of the family and more than 170 members from eight different states came together for a weekend comprised of two events.

On Friday night a dinner, program and community singing was held at the Draper Stake Center. There was lots of good food and musical numbers from just about all of Gold-en's 11 children's descendants. Saturday there was a picnic in the Bowery and the Murray Stake Center where the family ate more wonderful food, played soft-ball and volleyball, pitched horseshoes, had games for the kids and finished with karaoke.

Helen Welch Cozzens said that this was the first reunion of Grandpa Welch's family held in the Salt Lake City area and was so wonderfully received and well attended that the family has decided to begin the tradition of holding a reunion in Utah every other year. There were cousins who had not seen each other since leaving Cowley and Lovell, and it was wonderful to catch up on one another and become acquainted.
