Operation CARE aims to reduce crashes

Once again, Wyoming, Highway Troopers are sending a reminder message out i to the motoring public about i safe travel on Wyoming's roadways this upcoming Labor Day weekend.

One of the goals of the Wyoming Highway Patrol is to reduce the number of fatality crashes during peak holiday periods. To accomplish this goal troopers will be relying on the motoring public to practice safe driving habits, stepped up enforcement efforts and messages through media.

Troopers of the Wyoming Highway Patrol will be participating in a nationwide safety campaign known as "Operation C.A.R.E." or Combined Accident Reduction Effort.

State police and highway patrol organizations will be participating in this campaign all across the United States and in Canada during the Labor Day Holiday. The "Operation C.A.R.E." campaign begins Friday, Sept. 4, and will run through the weekend ending on Monday, Sept. 7 at midnight.

Extra efforts by troopers in Wyoming, some of whom will be working overtime in their respective areas, may target certain roadways that experience higher than normal volumes of traffic during the holiday period. It is hoped that the extra presence of a marked patrol vehicle will assist in keeping a safe and normal flow of traffic in these high traffic areas.

The overtime money for the troopers comes from a Federal Highway 402 Safety grant that has been secured just for this purpose by WyDOT's Highway Safety Branch.
