Big group attends Shooting Star Trail ride

CopyFriends of the Shooting Star Trail obtained permission from the DNR to take motorized vehicles for a ride on the trail Thursday evening, and by the time the group was ready to go at Wildwood Grove, there were two wagons full of people, as well as two golf carts and four bikes. It was a fun evening, as well as informative.
Ken Hartwig, owner of the Rose Pedaler in Rose Creek, provided the riders with a story about many of the wildflowers found along the Shooting Star Trail. He provided information about the various plants, telling participants that some plants are native to the prairie located inside Lake Louise State Park, and some are not. The trail goes though the park on its way over to Taopi and Adams.
Leaving Wildwood, the riders were given a short tour of LeRoy on their way to the Trailhead where the wagons crossed the trestle bridge. The trail is beautifully decorated with wildflowers of many, many kinds, the yellow plants being the most predominate at this time of the year.
Over 30 persons took part in the trail ride, some also riding the golf carts driven by Judy Jasper and Glenn Johnson. The wagons were pulled by vehicles driven by Ron Peters and Rick Dohlman.
Bikers included the Friends of the Trail, Charlie Anderson, Sharon Jacobson, Jerry Utz and Dale Vandenover.
The "motorcade" traveled to the road where the McClouds live and turned around, in order to have time to get back to town before dark. Once in town, everyone stopped outside C & H Classic and each person received a dish of ice cream, compliments of the Friends of the Shooting Star. It was a special treat and much appreciated.
After getting back to Wildwood, the wagons were unloaded and everyone agreed it was a fine evening for a trail ride!
