Richard R. "Butch" Roberts

Funeral services in honor of Richard R. "Butch" Roberts, 63, a resident of Potlatch, Idaho, were at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Church of the Nazarene, Princeton, Idaho, with Rev. Jim Hillbrick officiating. Burial followed at the Rock Creek Cemetery, Potlatch, Idaho.

Mr. Roberts died early Tuesday morning at his home at Potlatch, Idaho.

He was born on June 17, 1946 at St. Anthony, Idaho, to John and Vergie (Thomas) Roberts. He attended his schooling at Potlatch, Idaho, and graduated from the Potlatch High School in 1965. He joined the United States Navy and served during the Vietnam War. He was discharged in 1970.

He returned to Potlatch, Idaho, and was employed at Potlatch Forests Inc. until the mill closed in 1981. He was transferred to the Potlatch mill in Lewiston, Idaho, where he worked for one year.

He married Nancy Gnaedinger in December 1976 and the couple later divorced.

He later worked for Wilbur-Ellis as a truck driver at Potlatch, Idaho, for a few years. He later worked at Edwards sawmill near Princeton, Idaho, for a short time.

Butch later worked for a demolition company in the Palouse area for about two years. He then worked at the Palouse Welding and Machine Shop in Palouse, Wash., for about two months when he became disabled.

He moved to the Hiawatha apartments in Potlatch, Idaho, in 2004 where he had made his home since.

He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff Roberts, Las Vegas, Nev., and Joe Roberts, Post Falls, Idaho; two brothers, Jerry Roberts and his wife, Phyllis, Harvard, Idaho, Mark Roberts, Vancouver, Wash.; and four sisters, Joyce Anderson (Marty), Potlatch, Idaho, Fayetta Carper (Vernon) Lewiston, Idaho, Ruth Slack, Moscow, Idaho, and Donna Rae Young, Ogden, UT. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Thayer, in 2009.

The family suggests memorials to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund, in care of the Latah Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 264, Potlatch, ID. 83855 or to AWANA in care of Church of the Nazarene, Box 43, Princeton, ID. 83857

Kramer Funeral Home, Palouse, Wash., is handling the arrangements.
