Longtime Idaho senator Gary Schroeder was unseated by challenger Gresham Bouma in Tuesday's Republican primary. Schroeder, an 18 year veteran at the Idaho statehouse, received 1,551 votes to Bouma's 2,095. Bouma will go on to face Democrat Dan J. Schmidt in November's general election.

In the Idaho Representative Position B race, Isaac Young narrowly edged out David Klingenberg by a margin of 1,446 votes to 1,341 votes for the right to square off against Democrat Shirley Ringo.

Perennial Democratic challenger Judith Brown will face Republican Tom Trail, who was unopposed.

Incumbent Patrick Vaughan won the Democratic nod for Latah County assessor's position, beating Susan Ripley 876 votes to 475 votes. Vaughan will face Republican Jerry Coleman on the November ballot.

In the Latah County 3rd District Commissioner's race, David McGraw defeated fellow Republicans Paul Agidius and James "Jimmy G" Gilder by collecting 39.57 percent of the votes.

Agidius had the support of many of Moscow's precincts, but McGraw was more popular in the county's smaller communities.

McGraw will face Democrat Robin Ohlgren and Independent Gerald Warner in the fall election.

Lois Reed collected 1,856 votes for the treasurer's job, beating out Garry Collie and Verlene Coleman. There are no known challengers for the position in the November election.

Caroline Bitterwolf won the five-year library district trustee position by a margin of 2,663 votes to Bob Hassoldt's 1,281 votes.

In statewide races, Raul Labrador defeated Vaughn Ward for the Republican nomination for the 1st Congressional District. Ward was heavily favored in the race, but Labrador, who entered the fray just six months ago, took advantage of several missteps by the Ward campaign to win the election and the right to face incumbent Democrat Walt Minnick next November.

Idaho Supreme Court Justice Roger Burdick fended off a challenge by 2nd District Judge John Bradbury and will retain his position with the state's high court.
