Wayne Edward "Ketch" Ketchum, 61, of Moscow died at his home of congestive heart failure on Aug. 24, 2009. He was born in Boise on May 10, 1948, to William Wayne and Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Ketchum. He lived in Idaho all his life except during his Navy career in Virginia as a hospital corpsman. He worked as a cowboy, logger, miner and optician, then earned his LPN and RN degrees and took care of patients the rest of his life.

Ketch enjoyed people and family, and believed he could make everyone his friend by treating them as human beings. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, with a deep appreciation for the outdoors. His favorite movie was "Jeremiah Johnson" and he loved to watch all the hunting and fishing channels.

Ketch had been married four times. His first wife was Janet Loyal of Boise. Norma Lynn Marshall was wife number two and the mother of his two children, Alicia Lynn (Jeremy) Kazda of Lewiston, Idaho, and Patricia Gael (Steven) Mullally of Moscow. Marilyn Purdy of St. Maries, Idaho, was his third wife. In 2008 he married Kathleen Peck Probasco of Moscow and they had a wonderful 15 months together.

He was very, very proud of his daughters Alicia and Patty and had the pleasure of knowing and admiring their husbands Jeremy and Steven. His proudest moments included walking each of his girls down the aisle. He also loved and cherished his grandchildren, Ruthie and Dylan.

Additional survivors include brothers Russell (Sharon) Ketchum of Cascade, Idaho and Roscoe "Rocky" (Diane) Ketchum of Boise, sister Marybeth (Lee) Cole of Canby, Ore., and cousin Sharon (Len) George of Nampa, Idaho.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston.

Ketch loved to joke and tease, but under that jocular exterior dwelled a man who had a heart of gold. Many people blossomed under his care and attention.
