CopyYoung competitors from across Iowa earned breed championships in the FFA dairy cattle show judged Thursday, Aug. 12.
Vance Metzger of Lester earned a purple ribbon in the Jersey 4-year-old cows division and blue ribbons in the Jersey aged cows, Jersey junior yearling and Jersey summer yearling classes. Also receiving blue ribbons were Eric Metzger, Lester, Jersey senior calf, and Neil Metzger, Lester, Jersey 4-year-old cows.
Top dairies competed for honors in the Jersey division of the open class dairy cattle show judged Saturday, Aug. 14. Summit Farm Inc., (Vance, Eric, Toby and Neil Metzger), Lester, earned overall intermediate honorable mention accolades at the show.
The Metzgers took first place with their 3-year-old cow, third and fourth places with their 4-year-old cows, third place with an aged cow, fifth in the junior yearling heifer class, eighth in the summer yearling heifer class and 18th with their senior heifer calf.
