USDA grants awarded locally

Lyon County Reporter of Rock Rapids, Iowa

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development has awarded loans and grants totaling $22,736,256 to Iowa through the Rural Energy for America Loan and Grant Program.

The Rural Energy for America Loan and Grant Program funds will be used to help farmers, ranchers and rural small businesses develop renewable energy systems and make energy-efficiency improvements to their operations.

The grant funds from the Office of Rural Development will be distributed to the following:

Justin Fastert, Rock Rapids, $20,000 grant to purchase and install a geot-hermal system in an on-farm work shop.

Mogler Farms LLC, Alvord, $9,103 grant to purchase and install a geother-mal system in an on-farm work shop.

Streamside Farms Inc., Larchwood, $8,193 grant to replace the current grain drying system with a more energy efficient system.
