DWI legislation regarding chronic DWI offenders, cosponsored by Rep. Rachel Bringer (D-Palmyra), was signed into law by Missouri Governor Jay Nixon on June 2nd at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Headquarters in Jefferson City. Governor Nixon was accompanied at the event by Rep. Bringer, Senator Kurt Schaefer (R-Columbia,), Superintendent Colonel Ron Re-plogle of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Cole County Sheriff Greg White, Phaedra Olsen of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and several representatives of law enforcement, prosecutors, highway safety, and the Office of State Courts Administrator.

"Both during her career prosecuting criminals and during her entire time as a legislator, Rachel Bringer has been a true friend to law enforcement," Gov. Nixon said. He added, "I appreciate her

great leadership in this successful effort to reform Missouri's DWI laws." House Bills 1695, 1742, and 1674 contain provisions to ensure law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges will be able to identify chronic repeat offenders after reports throughout the state that chronic DWI offenders with multiple offenses were being charged as first-time offenders. Bringer said, "I am grateful for the Governor's leadership and support in addressing the issue of identifying chronic repeat DWI offenders throughout the state."
