Wanda Nixon, Mineral County Public Health Officer, has been notified by the Hawthorne Utilities Department that people are throwing away their used needles in their household trash. One of the county employees was stuck by one of these needles and this presents a tremendous health concern for these employees.

Both the Health Officer and the Hawthorne Utilities crew ask that people dispose of their needles in a safe and secure manner. Please dispose of all needles or sharps in an appropriate sharps container. Please do not overfill the sharps container. When your sharps container is full please bring it to the Mineral County Community Health Nurses Office or Mt. Grant General Hospital for proper disposal. If you take your full container to the Mt. Grant General Hospital they will give you a new sharps container.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call the Community Health Nurses Office at 775-945-3657.
