CopyJeff McKinney, 33, of Media, Pennsylvania, died at home on July 8, 2009. At the time of his death, he worked full time for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Mr. McKinney was also a member of the Swarthmore Fire Department and Folcroft Fire Company.
He moved to Fern-ley, Nevada in 2000 and became a member of the Fernley Fire Department as an EMT until he moved to Pennsylvania in 2002. Before moving to Nevada, Mr. McKinney worked for Olive-hurst Fire Department. He earned an Associates Degree in Fire Science from Shasta College in Redding, California and his Nursing Degree from Delaware College. He had been active in fire fighting and emergency medical services since he was a teenager.
Jeff spent several weeks in New Orleans as a volunteer with American Medical Response in 2005 for Hurricane Ka-trina Relief.
A baseball enthusiast, he was on a mission to visit every professional baseball stadium in the United States. He loved the San Francisco Giants. He was a practical joker and would quote lines from his favorite movies. Jeff will be remembered for his funny sense of humor and ability to make friends so easily. He was also very involved in Alex's Lemonade Stand, which raises money for childhood cancer.
Survivors include, his mother Pam Irick of Fern-ley, and father John Irick of Oak Harbor, Washington. In addition, a sister, Denise Williams, also of Oak Harbor, step father Michael Rolland of Walker Lake, Nevada; several aunts, uncles and friends all across the USA.
Memorial services were held at Griffith Funeral Chapel in Norwood, Pennsylvania on July 15, 2009. Condolences maybe sent to: sammiei@sbcglobal.net
