A total of 17 percent of Forsyth's registered voters have already cast ballots in the city council election that will be decided next Tuesday, Nov. 3.

City registrar Monique Battle said on Monday that 151 ballots had already been submitted, 116 as early voters and 35 through paper absentee ballots. About 67 absentee ballots were mailed out and remain outstanding.

Early voting will continue until 4:30 p.m. this Friday and election day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. The city's 2,600 registered voters may cast ballots until Friday at the registrar's office on Lee Street Extension, next to Pace and Pace. Voting on election day will be from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at the Wellington Building on Harris Street.

Five candidates are competing for three spots on the city council. They include incumbents Mike Dodd and Rosemary Walker, and challengers Jo Anna Banks, Gwen King and Eric Wilson. Dodd is seeking his third term and is owner of Dodd Builder Supply.

Walker has served on council since 1998 and is assistant director of the Monroe County Rec Department. Banks is a former Forsyth Better Hometown director and state economic developer. King is a corrections officer and Wilson is owner of Go Communications on the square and a former state economic developer.

Tuesday will be the first election since 2007, when voters threw out three incumbent council members and an incumbent mayor. Get live results first at www.mymcr.net the night of Tuesday, Nov. 3.
