The Henderson County Retired School Personnel Association (HCRSPA) held its monthly meeting on Jan. 13 in the Activity Building of the First United Methodist Church in Athens. Lynn Hoover, President, called the meeting to order and welcomed members and guests. First Vice President Bill Green led the group in the pledges to the flags of the United States of America and the State of Texas. Annette Trammell provided an inspirational message.

An interesting and informative program was presented on Fabric Art or quilting. Quilts have played an important role in the history of our country providing not only warmth but also social opportunities and family histories. Presenters were Shirley Farrell, Judy Lamance, Annie Rosser, Elizabeth Rinks, Evella Carter, and Patty Curtis. The presenters talked about the care of quilts as well as the history of the quilts which they brought to display. Quilts by Sammie Webb were also displayed.

The business meeting followed the program. The minutes presented by Secretary Fran Smith and the financial report by Treasurer Paula Jaques were approved. Patty Curtis announced April 21 as the date HCRSPA will provide lunch to Trinity Valley Community College students at the Ark. Plans will be finalized at the March and April meetings.

Officers for 2010-2011 were elected. They are: Eugene Buford, President; Patty Curtis, First Vice President; Bill Green, Second Vice President; Ann Hays, Secretary; and Alberta Pin-gel, Treasurer. The new officers will attend training sessions and be installed in May. Delegates to the 57th Annual Texas Retired Teachers Association State Convention were also selected. They are: Eugene Buford, Bill Green, and Evelyn Kindred. Inez Green will serve as an alternate delegate.

The February meeting of HCRSPA will be Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. All meetings are held in the Activity Room of the First United Methodist Church in Athens. All retirees of the Teacher Retirement System of Texas are invited to attend. The coming year is crucial as TRTA plans for the next session of the Texas Legislature. TRTA and HCRSPA need you to join as we work for benefits for all education retirees in Texas. For membership information, call President Lynn Floover at 903 675-4709.
