SouthWest Water escalates voluntary water conservation alert

Special to The News Existing drought conditions throughout Texas prompts SouthWest Water Company to accelerate its Stage 1 - Voluntary Water Conservation alert to all Monarch Utilities customers 30 days sooner than scheduled. Beginning this month and until further notice, customers are asked to

reduce their water usage on non-essential purposes to achieve a 10 percent reduction in daily water use.

"Due to the limited amount of rain over the past several months, much of Texas is now experiencing moderate to extreme drought conditions as measured by the United States Department of Agri-

culture," said Gary Rose, SouthWest Water's director of operations - Texas Utilities West. "Additionally, the seasonal drought outlook projections are anticipating a continuation of this weather pattern for the foreseeable future."

Below is a guideline of the voluntary watering practices and conservation

practices the company recommends: Voluntary Practices All water users are requested to voluntarily limit the irrigation of landscaped areas using hose-end sprinklers or automatic systems between 12:01 a.m. to 4 a.m.; 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.; and 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on the designated watering day on

the approved watering schedule cited below.

Address ends in 2 or 9 Monday and Thursday

Address ends in 1 or 5 Tuesday and Friday

Address ends in 6 or 7 Wednesday and Saturday

Address ends in 0 or 3 Thursday and Sunday

Address ends in 4 or 8 Friday and Monday

Additional Conservation Practices

Water garden, trees, flowers or other landscaped areas with hand held hose, a faucet filled bucket or watering can any day between 6 p.m. to 10 a.m., and avoid unattended hoses. Utilize soaker hoses anywhere except lawns from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.
