Educator presented Community Builder Award

Clay Tompkins recognized for his public service

Science Hill Lodge No. 211 and the Grand Lodge of Texas awarded the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas Community Builder to CR1SD Superintendent Clay Tompkins on April 14.

Tompkins, the Superintendent of Cross Roads ISD and former teacher, received the award based on his distinguished service to students in Cross Roads and Henderson County.

I The award is designed to enable a Masonic Lodge to formally recognize outstanding non-Masons who have distinguished themselves through their service to the community; to the local, state or national government; to their church or synagogue; or to humanity.

Tompkins's community service includes over 32 years of teaching and work with children at Athens ISO and Cross Roads ISO. In that time he has served with distinction as a regular and special education

teacher, elementary principal, and most recently as superintendent.

A lifelong resident of Henderson County.

Tompkins is a 1974 graduate of Athens High School, and holds a BA and MEd from the University of Texas at Tyler as well as additional cer-tifica'tions. He is married to his high school sweetheart, the former Tina

Miller, and enjoys spending time with his family and grandchildren and is a member of First Baptist Church in Athens.

He said,"I have been very blessed in my life to have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful students, colleagues, and community members in both Athens and Cross Roads."
