Governor reappoints Wallace to Department of Rural Affairs

Gov. Rick Perry has reappointed three members to the Texas Department of Rural Affairs for terms to expire Feb. 1, 2017, including Athens resident Pat Wallace.

The department supports community development, educational and leadership opportunities, and healthcare for rural areas.

"We are pleased to welcome three returning board members as they continue to serve on TDRA's board," said Howard G. Baldwin, Jr., TDRA's interim executive director. "Their dedication has been an asset to this agency and their presence on TDRA's board will continue to be a great benefit to rural Texas."

Wallace is an administrator at East Texas Medical Center of Athens. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a trustee of the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council, a member and past chair of the Texas Hospital Association, and a board member of the Athens Economic Development Corporation. He is also a member of the Trinity Valley Community College Health Occupations Advisory Committee and a past executive committee member of the Center for Rural Health Initiatives. Wallace received a bachelor's degree from Southwestern University and a master's degree in health care administration from Trinity University.

Remelle Farrar of Crow-ell is a certified community developer, and director of the Knox County Vision-ing Team and Texas Prairie Rivers Region. She is an advisory board member of Ogallala Commons Rural Resource Network, and a past member of the Texas Econom ic Deve lopmen t Institute Advisory Council. Farrar received a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Bryan Tucker of Childress is the Childress city manager and owner of Jachin Construction. He is a past volunteer with Mission Arlington and past football and basketball coach for the YMCA of Arlington. Tucker received a bachelor's degree from Texas "lech University.

These appointments are subject to Senate confirmation.
