Natalee Alexander brings Cross Roads a state title

It isn't every year Henderson County has a state champion. in 2011, we've got two.

Cross Roads High School's Natalee Alexander won the gold medal in the high jump at the Class 1A State Track & Field Championships last week in Austin, joining Malakoff's Andrew Ke-heley, who won a state gold in power-lifting earlier in the year.

"It feels awesome," said Alexander. "I'm proud to represent my school like this, and it shows that hard work and effort can take you far."

She is the second Cross Roads athlete to bring home state champion accolades. Jennifer Craig Godwin won four straight tennis crowns from 1992-1995.

Alexander's winning jump was 5 feet, 4 inches, but she cleared the 5-5 mark because - well, because she could.

The sophomore got off to a slow start, missing her first jump at 5-2. She cleared the height on her final attempt and then went on to hit her 5-4 jump on the first attempt.
