Today we will have a little news, then "my story."

Some of my sick friends are better, they had surgery. Ophelia had a cancer removed from her leg, it was pretty big. She was at church, said it was healing well. Jerry Carrico had surgery on both eyes, he's doing OK and Wayne Hawkins had heart surgery, with four bypasses, in Tyler hospital. He is doing better; he may be home today!

Osie Baggett, 99 years old, died last week. She had taught school in Athens for over 40 years, had been on the school board for 12 years. After retiring she worked as a volunteer at the ETMC for 10 years and in 2007 was the woman of the year, a well liked person. She was married go O.D. Baggett, they had two sons, Joey and Royce Baggett. I don't know if they were twins. Anyway she was a nice lady!

Starting Monday evening at 6 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. will be a vacation bible school at the Landmark Baptist Church, ages from nursery thru 6th grade. If you need a ride a church van will be picking up. If you do have children come to this, please send some offering money, VBS always helps some needy cause. Thanks! Teaching crafts and refreshments!

Still could use more rain!

Now the story "Caster Oil" day! Long years ago when I was seven or eight my mother, Trixie Morrison, decided it was time for some castor oil, don't know how she knew this, I sure didn't tell her! This started about 9:30 in the morning,, the first time. The first time 1 gagged and had to spit it up, so here we go again with a new cup full; no, I couldn't take it! So mother used a different approach. I'll give you a "quarter", pretty good pay back then; no, not worth it. My daddy, Tom Morrison, was home he was a very kind person, never spanked us. He added more money to the pot! Got up to 860 (really-good), but no! Then came the next means "of torture." Daddy's wide razor strap with mother using it as she had before, made a lot noise, but didn't hurt much. If you cried loud, she thought she was killing you, that didn't work. Now my daddy didn't want me to feel the razor strap, so mother tried one more thing. She said this is the last time! You take this and don't spit it up, if you do, I'm going to sprinkle water in your face!

I got on my bed that was in a corner of the room, got over as far as I could, begging mother, not to make me take it, but it came any way. That time I took it any way, and just starting to "gag," and here came the water! End of story, but not being sick! My daddy said that day, the castor oil was "NOT" to take.

Talked to Jimmy Mitchell from Athens, he has some good stories to tell in the Athens Review, so nice to read!

Mary had another write up in The Malakoff News, she is the "Lady with the hat"!

Emily Lundy from Trinidad, I can remember when my mother bought an "Electrolux" vacuum cleaner from a door to door salesman, don't think we even had a wool rug!

I've been getting nice tomatoes, yellow squash and fresh okra from Trussell's Produce Place on Corsicana Street, have been good!

I cooked fresh green beans one day, may finish eating them today, still have two tomatoes, so thanks for reading!
