D. Truman Nicholson, 92

D. Truman Nicholson, 92, of Chalmers, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at Westminster Village in West Lafayette.

He was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Cuzco, and was the son of the late Clyde and Alice Conrad Nicholson. He graduated from Cuzco High School in 1935.

His marriage was to Mary "Peggy" Townsley on Aug. 9, 1941, in Chalmers. She died April 27,2001.

Mr. Nicholson worked for White County Co-op as a manager in the petroleum department, retiring in 1982. He owned Nick's Photography in Chalmers for many years.

Mr. Nicholson was a longtime member of the Chalmers Community Church, a member of the Chalmers American Legion, Kiwanis and Monticello Masonic Lodge and was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a tank mechanic. He enjoyed traveling and golfing.

Surviving are a daughter, Darlene Lenz of Cedar Lake, and three sisters, Lu Bair (husband: Oscar) of Dubois, Mary Holt of Shoals and Helen Asbell of West Baden Springs.

Also surviving are his grandchildren, Wayne Jackman (wife:

Cindy) of Mansfield, Mass., and Julia Jackman (partner: Theresa) of Middleboro, Mass., and a great-grandson, Brandon.
