Cornelius "Con" Van Eeckhout

Cornelius "Con" Van Eeckhout, 99, Velva, fomerly of Drake, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Cornelius Van Eeckhout, son of Charles and Nellie (Rutten) Van Eeckhout, was born January 9, 1911 on the family farm near Guthrie, north of Drake, where he was raised and educated. He began farming with father at an early age.

On May 1,1940 he was married to Doris Lain at Drake. They made their home on a farm north of Drake and continued farming until retiring in 1976. In 1981 they moved into Drake where they resided until moving to Velva in 2008.

In addition to farming, Con enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking.

He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church of Drake and a former Guthrie School Board member, clerk and assessor of Strege Township and Guthrie Elevator board member.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; 1 son, Robert (Helaine) Van Eeckhout of Bismarck; 2 daughters, Janice (William) Green of Manito, IL and Ruth (Lyle) See-hafer of Drake; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-greatgrandchild; 2 sisters, Angeline Bugge of Two Harbors, MN and Frances (Tony) Grad of Harvey; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, LeRoy; his parents; and 4 brothers, Edward, Emil, Bennie and Eli.

Funeral was held Monday, January 18,2010 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Drake.

Burial: St. Margaret Mary Catholic Cemetery in Drake.
