March 23, 1935 - February 8, 2010

Virgil M. Jaeger, age 74 of Wash-bum, ND passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 at a Bismarck hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Feb. 13 at St. Edwin"s Catholic Church in Washburn with Rev. Frank J. Schuster as celebrant.

Virgil was born March 23, 1935 in Berwick, ND to John and Margaret (Koenig) Jaeger. He was raised on the family farm near Berwick. Virgil often referred to himself as Valedictorian, Salutato-rian, and "class dunce" of Berwick High School, as he was the only graduate in his class. He was offered a music scholarship and won many awards with his booming virtuoso singing voice. He married Floretta "Sandy" Volk on Jan. 24, 1961 in Rugby. They made their home near Towner until 1971. They relocated several times before settling in Washburn and building' the family home in 1976. A man of many talents, he and Sandy began a family business in 1977 when they developed 8-J's Trucking (8 Jaegers - Virgil (Pa), Sandy (Ma), & six kids). Throughout his working career, Virgil built and designed many applicable "toys" and was admired for his work ethic and generous heart. He was an active member of St. Edwin's Catholic Church in Washburn and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Virgil started out a farmer and in his heart always remained a farmer. His final years were spent helping his good friend Bob Land-gren on the farm. Among many things, Virgil is remembered for his terrific singing voice, his sense of humor, and his preference for Dodge pick-ups. He enjoyed nick-naming nearly everyone he knew, especially his grandkids. Virgil touched many lives with his courage and strength undergoing a recent kidney transplant and made many new friends while receiving dialysis. While his wife Sandy was the heart of the family, Virgil was the rock. He will be greatly missed by his family, his community, and many friends.

Those grateful to have shared in his life are his two daughters, Michelle Hager of Washburn, & Madonna (Jeff) Wretling of Garrison; four sons, Randy Jaeger, Russell Jaeger, Rodney (Kristi) Jaeger, & Ryan (Tracy) Jaeger, all of Washburn; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; 5 sisters, Martha Degrave of Wisconsin, Anna Marie (Al) Zacher of South Dakota, Lydia (Bruce) Leighton of Wisconsin, Sylvia Brook of Wisconsin, & Lorraine Jaeger of Colorado; many nieces, nephews, and one "schtinky" cat.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Sandy), & one son (John Glen)
