Luella M. (Albright) Thompson

Luella M. (Albright) Thompson, the daughter of William and Clara (Nelson) Albright was born July 27, 1912 in the home of her parents near Overly, North Dakota. She died at the age of 98 years on Monday, September 6, 2010 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota after suffering a severe stroke on Sunday.

Luella was raised in the rural Overly home of her parents where she attended a country school until the family moved closer to Willow City, North Dakota. She completed her education, graduating from Willow City High School, the class of 1929. On July 18, 1935, she was united in marriage to Sherman D. Thompson in Bottineau, North Dakota. The couple made their home in Fonda, North Dakota where Sherman was the manager of the grain elevators there. In 1938, they moved to Edmonds, North Dakota, where Sherman accepted the management position with the grain elevator there. In 1946, the couple moved to LaMoure, North Dakota where Sherman accepted a position in land management for Union Central Life Insurance Company. They then spent one year in Hecla, South Dakota. Sherman then started work with the Thorp Auto Company, moving the family to Britton, South Dakota in 1948

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, Luella also worked outside the home after her children were raised, as a sales clerk for Dakins Drug in Britton. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and Presbyterian Women, the Hospital Auxiliary, a Garden Club, Extension Club, Sewing Club, Canasta Club and a Square Dance Club. Following their retirement in 1977, the couple moved to Jamestown, North Dakota and then to St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1999. Sherman died September 6, 2002. Following his death, Luella continued to live in her own home until her death.

Survivors include one son, Bruce and his wife, Gloria of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren, Kirk (Sharon) Thompson and Kraig (Penny) Thompson, all of St. Cloud, MN; Mitch Thompson of Boise, ID and Erica (Phil) Roettger of Landisville, PA; great-grandchildren, Megan Thompson, Luke, Amelia and Sam Roettger; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Barry; three brothers, Clifford, Vernon and LeRoy Albright; two sisters, Nina Drafall and Florence Stenson; and her parents.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Willow City with burial in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Willow City. Pastor Tim Solberg, officiating.
