Manchester Woman's Club Wins National Award

Helen McCorvey, First Vice President of the Manchester Woman's Club, accepted the General Federation of Women's Clubs second-place National Award for its 2008 media and public relations program.

She accepted a Certificate of Recognition and a $100 cash award at the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs 2009 Institute held August 22-23 in Macon. The award was announced at the 118th annual International Convention held June 13-15 in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Woman's Club of Linthicum Heights, Maryland won first place. The Tuesday Study Club (Missouri) finished third.

The Manchester Woman's Club won the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs award at the state convention held April 17-19. The state was represented in national competition for the club's public relations report and media book.

The General Federation of Women's Clubs, one of the oldest and largest women's voluntary community organizations, was founded in 1890. Its headquarters are in Washington, D.C. GFWC has more than 100,000 members in more than 4,000 affiliated clubs located in every state and in more than a dozen countries.

McCorvey was among the workshop presenters at the Institute. She discussed the club's GaFWC 2008 award-winning project: "Operation Worship Holy Bible."

The Institute, attended by 265 clubwomen, held workshops in Arts, Conservation, Education, Home Life, Public Affairs, Tallulah Falls School and Membership.

McCorvey, President Louise Perry, District Six First Vice President Pat Turner, Education Department Chairman June Jackson, Public Affairs Department Chairman Judi Saint Sommer and Conservation Department Chairman Barbara Wilson attended the Institute Work Shops and Board Meetings.
