Marion Eugene Massengale, age 81 of Woodbury, died Thursday, August 27, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 30, at Woodbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ellis Freeman officiating, assisted by Rev. Robert Infinger. Interment followed in Meriwether Memory Gardens With the following serving as pallbearers, Jiody. Holland, Cliff Massengale, Christopher Turner, David Massengale, Joey Massengale and Asa Sweatnam.
Mr. Massengale was born Feb. 12, 1928, in Meriwether County, a son of Frank C. Massengale and Mattie B. Threadgill Massengale. He worked 33 years as a loom fixer for Callaway Mills in Manchester and retired from Milliken. He later worked for and retired from Mack Timber in Woodbury and Greenville. He was a very active member of Woodbury United Methodist Church, where he attended the Baker Clements Sunday School Class and served faithfully in all church activities including the Board of Trustees.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Kathryn Ann Harper Massengale, of Woodbury; two sons, Gene Massengale and his wife Connie of Ashburn and Bob Massengale of Woodbury, a daughter, Kathy Massengale of Indianapolis, IN, a brother, Wallace Massengale and a sister, Annette Rush, both of Woodbury; five grandchildren, Michael Wise of Woodbury, Jan Hansen and her husband Hal of Peachtree City, Cliff Massengale and his wife Rhiannon of LaGrange, Jody Holland of Woodbury and Tiffany Holland of Indianapolis, IN; three great-grandsons, Christopher Turner, Neal Ellison, and Carson Massengale. Also, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Flowers will be accepted or those who desire may make memorial contributions to Woodbury United Methodist Church, P. 0. Box 186 Woodbury, Ga. 30293.
Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home, Woodbury, was in charge of arrangements.
