Paul Robert Moser

Paul Robert (Bob) Moser, age 88 passed away on Saturday, Sept. 5 , 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.

Visitation was 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home., with Prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Parish at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 9, with burial in Mt. Gilead Cemetery.

Bob was born on September 6, 1920, in Decatur, the son of John and Anna Moser. Bob married Jeane Chambers of Naples, Illinois, on June 28,1947 in Decatur.

Bob served several years as director of the Macon County Health Improvement Association (HIA); he was also a lifelong member of the Macon County Farm Bureau and served as its director. Bob was a state representative of promotion for the old Macon County Seed Company of Decatur and he was a charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Bob was one of the original founders of the Illinois Pony of the Americas Club (POAC). He served several years as director, president, and inspector of the state club; and served as International POAC director for eight years. He was inducted into the International POA Hall of Fame in Indianapolis several years ago, and was the first member to be inducted into the Illinois Hall of Fame. He and his family developed a bloodline that produced national show champions and had the first Premier Stallion in the POA breed, Lady's Warrior, one of the first two animals to be inducted into the International Hall of Fame. For these achievements, Bob won the Premier Breeder award. Bob received an International award for the countless hours he spent in the promotion of the POAC breed and for his service to the youth of the nation. He was also one of the oldest active members of the organization at the time of his death.

Bob was an avid sports fan following his children and grand children through grade school, high school, and college in basketball, football, baseball, soccer, and hockey. Bob started and financed the first successful basketball program at the then new Holy Family Parish with his friend Eddie Beck as coach. He was also a devoted Cubs and Notre Dame fan.

He was a farmer until he retired and then remained active in farming with his sons until his death. He was one of the last farmers in Macon County to farm with horses. He raised cattle and horses all of this life in the same community near Elwin. Bob always said he could not have achieved his success without his family.

Surviving are Bob's wife, Jeane Moser, of Macon; daughter Kaye and husband Carl Norlin, and their children Zachary and Megan, of LaSalle; son Dick and wife Shelly Moser, and their children Cody and Wyatt of Macon; daughter Pam and her husband Phill Glosser, and their children Ryan, Logan, and Morgan of Mount Zion; son Dan and his wife Jackie Moser, and their children Cole of Chicago and Hanna of Decatur; daughter-in-law Kay Moser, widow of Robert William "Bobby" Moser, and their son Travis and his wife Malea, and their children Taylor, Lane, Olivia, and Will of Mason, Illinois and their daughter Leslie and her husband Brock Kaecker, and their son Brody of Ohio, Illinois.

He is also survived by his sisters Helen and her husband Rex Falk of Decatur; Ruth McCollom of Decatur; Patty Stockman of Effingham; and Gloria Kater of Decatur. Brothers-in-law William Chambers and wife Sheri, Richard Tomlinson and wife Shirley, and many nieces and nephews also survive him.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Anna Moser; his son Robert William "Bobby" Moser, his sister Marilyn Tomlinson; his brother John Moser, his granddaughter Casey Lynn Moser; two great-grandsons Lance and Braden Kaecker.; and brothers-in-law Glen Kater, Reed McCollom, and Paul Stockman.

Donations and memorials may be given to Holy Family School or Holy Family Church in Decatur.
