The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has announced that a public vaccination clinic will be offered in Moville on Monday, February 8.

The clinic will be held at Woodbury Central High School from 4 to 6 p.m.

All area residents over 6 months of age will be eligible to receive an H1N1 flu vaccination at either public clinics or their health care providers and Monday's session will be the first public clinic held in the rural part of the county..

Health department officials continue to encourage those at highest risk of complications to make sure they are vaccinated and children under 10 years of age to receive two vaccinations one month apart.

Public health officials predict that another wave of HINl illness will occur during the usual time Iowa sees the highest rate of influenza activity - late January and February.

Thus, being immunized as soon as possible will give lowans protection against this possible third wave of illness.

SDHD will be offering a free HINl vaccination to individuals over 6 months of age at the clinic in Moville on Monday afternoon.

Individuals are encouraged to go Siouxland Health Department's website located at www.siouxland-districthealth.org to review the vaccine information sheets, download and complete a copy of the HINl consent form for each person to be vaccinated before coming to the clinic.

Consent materials are available in English and Spanish on the website and 1014 Nebraska Street. Vaccine Information Sheets are available in multiple languages.

A completed consent form for each individual to be vaccinated should be brought to the clinic. By bringing a completed consent form to the clinic, the public can help to move people through the clinic easier, consent forms will be available at the clinic.

If you have questions about the HINl public clinic or the HINl influenza vaccine please call Health Department's hotline at 712-234-3922 or the main office phone number at 712-279-6119 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

What is 2009 HINl influenza?

HINl influenza (also called Swine Flu) is caused by a new strain of influenza virus. It has spread to many countries.

Like other flu viruses, 2009 HINl spreads from person to person through coughing, sneezing, and sometimes through touching objects contaminated with the virus.

Signs of2009 HINl can include:

Fatigue Fever Sore Throat Muscle Aches Chills Coughing Sneezing

Some people also have diarrhea and vomiting. Most people feel better within a week. But some people get pneumonia or other serious illnesses. Some people have to be hospitalized and some die.

How is 2009 HINl different from regular seasonal flu?

Seasonal flu viruses change from year to year, but they are closely related to each other. People who have had flu infections in the past usually have some immunity to seasonal flu viruses (their bodies have built up some ability to fight off the viruses).

The 2009 HINl flu is a new flu virus. It is very different from seasonal flu viruses. Most people have little or no immunity to 2009 HINl flu (their bodies are not prepared to fight off the virus).

Inactivated vaccine (vaccine that has killed virus in it) is injected into the muscle, like the annual flu shot. A live, intranasal vaccine (the nasal spray vaccine) is also available.

What if there is a severe reaction?
