Services for Dwain Loyd held Sept. 10

Dwain Eugene Loyd, 96, formerly of Climbing Hill died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at his residence in Coral Springs, Fla.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 10 at First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill, with Mr. Jim Wilson officiating. Burial was in Climbing Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy Reserves. Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Loyd was born Jan. 18, 1913, in Osmond, Neb., the son of William Edward and Hazel (Neal) Loyd. He grew up in Hornick, Iowa, and graduated from Hornick High School. He then worked for the Toy Banking organization in Hornick, Osmond and Alta, Iowa. In 1935, he became assistant cashier at the Hornick Bank.

He married Lorraine Peterson of Alta, Iowa, in Aug. 14, 1938, in Alta. They had four children, Christopher, Marcia, Susan and Randolph. Lorraine died April 4, 1996. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Enterprise as an aviation storekeeper. After returning from the war, the couple settled in Climbing Hill, where they raised their family. He was head cashier at the Climbing Hill Savings Bank. He also owned the Loyd Insurance Agency. In 1992, the couple retired to Coral Springs, Fla.

He served on the school board and was instrumental in forming the WesternlowaTelephoneAssociation. He served on the board for many years.

Survivors include four children, Christopher (Virginia) Loyd of Bonita Springs, Fla., Marcia (Howard) Gustavson of Boca Raton, Fla., Susan (Loran) Jensen of Titusville, Fla., and Randolph (Kathy) Loyd of Chapel Hill, N.C.; his close friend, Marie Kaylor; his sister, Wilma Emster of Clinton, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Glen Peterson of Austin, Texas; a sister-in-law, Marge Loyd of Hornick, Iowa; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Michael) Gorman, Eric (Helen) Loyd, Robert (Ann) Landgraf, Brian Landgraf, Bruce Loyd and Kimberly Loyd; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine; and brothers, Gerald and Eldred.
