September 17, 2009 marks the 222nd anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States.

In recognition of the occasion, Moville and Lawton each declared this week, September 17-23, as "Constitution Week."

The mayors of both towns signed a statement, asking citizens to "reaffirm the ideals of the framers of the Constitution" by "vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties." They also urged us to "remember that lost rights may never be regained."

The document was created in 1787, as 55 delegates assembled at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia's Independence Hall.
