Judge David Jasper Turner, Jr.

Judge David Jasper Turner, Jr., age 67 of Manchester, passed away Sunday, Aug. 30, at West Georgia Hospice in LaGrange.

Memorial services were held Tuesday at Manchester First Baptist Church, with Dr. Bob Patterson officiating, assisted by Rev. Bill Strandberg, Rev. John Boyer and Judge Rex Ruff. Serving as honorary pallbearers were fellow judges, lawyers, and law enforcement officials.

Judge Turner was born in Atlanta on April 9, 1942, to the late David Jasper Turner, Sr. and Katherine Howard Tbrner. He was a 1960 graduate of Sylvan Hills High School, and he received his Undergraduate and Juris Doctorate degrees from Mercer University in 1967. While at Mercer, Judge "Turner was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and served as President of the Student Bar Association. A member of the Georgia Bar, Judge Turner maintained an active law practice for 42 years. He served as Juvenile Court Judge for Meriwether County for 35 years and was, at one time, President of the Council of Juvenile Court Judges of Georgia. He also presided over Municipal Court for 10 different jurisdictions. He was a member of the Alabama Army National Guard and was a member of County Line Church in Warm Springs.

Judge Turner is survived by his wife, Joan K. Turner of Manchester; two daughters: Emily Smith and her husband, Mark, of Pawleys Island, SC and Ellen Pilcher and her husband, Carson, of Atlanta; a step-son, Jonathan Harper and his wife, Shih-Ping, of Marietta; three grandchildren: John David Smith of Pawleys Island, SC, Stiles Allen Pilcher of Atlanta and Devin Imin Harper of Marietta; an aunt, Joyce Phillips of Lawrenceville.

Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home, Manchester, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.
