Hyden faces life sentence after judge finds him guilty

After hearing testimony from various witnesses for a little over a week, Judge Michael Thompson handed down a guilty charge on four of five charges against Christopher Hyden of Clinton.

Hyden, 29, was found guilty Wednesday, Aug. 26 in Big Stone County Court of first degree criminal sexual conduct for raping the then 6-year old girl, second degree attempted murder for slashing her throat and first and second attempted murder for the attack on the mother, 27-year old Dawn Boyle. He was acquitted of first degree attempted murder involving the girl.

Boyle had her throat slashed twice and was stabbed in the abdomen at least four times during the attack Aug. 1 of last year.

Hyden could face life in prison without parole.

Hyden was represented by attorney Kent Marshall of Barrett, while Matthew Frank, Assistant Attorney General for the State of Minnesota worked with Big Stone County Attorney William Watson on the prosecution of this case. ,

Watson said he expects formal sentencing to take place sometime in October. Hyden remains jailed in Willmar.
