Carl B. Siewert

Carl B. Siewert died Monday Aug. 24, 2009 at his home in rural Montevideo at the age of 89. Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Anderson

Skog1und officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.

Carl Bornholdt Siewert was born on Nov. 28, 1919 in Billings, MT to Max and Winnifred (Bornholdt) Siewert. Following the death of his father, his mother was married to Herman Thiele. He grew up in Montana and moved to Twin Brooks, SD, where he graduated from Milbank High School in 1937. He attended Mankato State Teachers College before entering the Army Air Force during World War II. While stationed at Dayton, OH he met Polly Brown, to whom he was married on June 29, 1946 in Springfield, OH. They lived and farmed near Marvin, SD, lived in Springfield, OH for a number of years, and Twin Brooks, SD where they also farmed before moving to rural Montevideo in 1970. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Posts in Montevideo. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, gardening, playing bingo and card games and especially "enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is survived by six children: Carl Joe Siewert and his wife Lynette of Ortonville; Mary Ann Nolting of Ortonville; Kieth Siewert and his wife Julie of Renville; Paulette Anderson and her husband Dennis of Montevideo; Linda Abernathy and her husband Richard of Webster, SD; and Carol Kuebler and her husband Ervin of St. Cloud; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy Thiele and his wife Roberta of Watertown, SD, as well as by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Polly in 2002; one grandson, Kyle Anderson; two great-grandsons: Clay Anderson and Carl Anderson; a brother Henry Siewert; a sister Evelyn Hoem and a son-in-law, Donald Nolting.

Pallbearers were his grandchildren, Dawn Siewert, Brenda Athow, Troy Siewert, Angle Bowen, Kimberly Danielson, Sandra Nolting, Barbara Hoffman, Daniel Nolting, Orrin Siewert, James Siewert, Ross Siewert, Tina Wagner, Melissa Anderson, Paul Anderson, Patrick Abernathy, Matthew Abernathy, Lora Feld, and Shannon Rothwell

Honorary pallbearers were all of his Great-grandchildren.
