In Reta Dupree's words, she was violated by the insults of old age. Reta passed away on August 29 at the age of 79 at Valley Healthcare in Billings, due to chronic medical issues.

Reta was adopted in Helena at the age of 3 months by Edward LeRoy and Melissa lone McLaughlin Jay. She was raised and received her education in Cascade, Montana, where she was valedictorian of her class in 1948. She married Lester Lee Obrecht in 1948 who passed away in 1955. She was not always dealt an easy hand, but she raised three beautiful and talented children primarily as a single mom. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her pets, sewing, crafting, bowling, working crossword puzzles in ink, and a good joke as well as a bad one. By her own admission, she did not love cooking. Reta worked at two Montana car dealerships, a radio station in Lewistown, and as credit manager in Helena and at Wilcox Volkswagen in Billings. She was also owner of the Winifred Tavern in Winifred and a sewing shop in Roundup.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Frenchy" Dupree and her beloved pets. She leaves behind her children, Leanna Clawson of Denver, Charlene Thompson of Cascade, Dana Obrecht of Great Falls, and stepchildren Bob Dupree of Billings, Michelle Drube of Belgrade, James Dupree of Win-slow, Arizona, Darin Dupree of Issanti, Minnesota, their spouses, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be loved and remembered as a wonderful mother, doting grandmother/great grandmother, and caring friend.

A Scattering of the Ashes will be held at a later date

Reta was a lot like Maxine. She was funny, irreverent, politically incorrect, and more than a little bit cranky at times. Still we loved her.

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly worn out and loudly proclaiming, "WOW, WHAT RIDE!"
