Eastlake and Skyline are each sending two swimmers to the state 4A meet in Federal Way Feb. 18-20. Eastside Catholic will also have swimmers at the state 3A competition.

In a 2010 district meet that coaches said rivaled the speed and competition of 2009 Sea-King 4A District Championships, Eastlake placed sixth overall with 82 points and Skyline placed eighth with 72 points. Inglemoor won the team title with 274 points.

"Six of 12 for team that only won two dual meets in the year, that's pretty good," said Eastlake head coach Andy Hay. "I thought we had the best relays that we could possibly have."

But it wasn't the relays that got either school to state. Eastlake's Zach Alleva ensured a state birth in the 200-yard individual medley when he took third, swimming it in 2 minutes, 6.26 seconds. He also placed third in the 100-yard breast-stroke, finishing in 1:04.23. Ryker Oldenberg will compete at state in the 100-yard butterfly after swimming the event in a third-place time of 57.56 seconds Feb. 13 at Juanita High School.

Skyline's Alex Palumbo and David Jett also will compete in Federal Way. Palumbo earned a spot in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events after placing fourth and third, respectively. He swam the 200 free in 1:52.38 and the 500 free in 4:52.49.

Jett placed fourth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.29 seconds.

Eastside Catholic's Ethan Hallowell won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle races in 46.68 seconds and 1:42.68 respectively at Mary Wayte Pool on Mercer Island. He helped the Crusaders place eighth overall (58 points) at the Sea-King 3A District Championships.

The award highlights players' athletic prowess, but also recognizes their high academic standards, the press release said. Elston maintained a 3.87 GPA.
