Many groups have stepped up to host Sammamish City Council and Issaquah School Board candidate forums this year to give voters a real opportunity to learn first hand who will serve the public best.

Now it's up to the voters to show they care by taking time to attend the forums. Learn who you trust to spend your tax dollars wisely, who has a vision for the future of Sammamish, who knows best how to listen and assist their constituents.

Candidates are scheduled to participate in three forums in October.

Host: Beaver Lake Community Center Moderator: Ari Cetron, editor of Sammamish Review 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 5, Beaver Lake Lodge

Host: Sammamish Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club

Moderator: Denise Smith, League of Women Voters 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 7, Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church

Host: Sammamish Chamber of Commerce 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Oct. 15, the Plateau Club. Reservation needed.

Issaquah School Board candidates will meet the public in two forums.

Host: The Issaquah Press Moderator: Debbie Berto, publisher of The Issaquah Press 7 p.m. Oct. 8, Issaquah City Hall South. Questions welcome at IssaquahForum@gmail.com

Host: PTSA Council 6:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Pacific Cascade Freshman Campus

Special thanks to the organizations who are hosting the forums. More importantly, thanks to the candidates for making themselves available to answer questions -- for what surely must be an uncomfortable occasion.

Answering questions on stage, side-by-side your opponent might just be the toughest part of being a candidate.

Now it's up to voters to be good citizens by showing up and asking the hard questions, learning what they can and voting wisely.
