Southern Nash High School student Heather Gabrielle Rogers has been awarded a $10, 000 four-year scholarship, funded solely by the State Employees' Credit Union.

She is the daughter of Melvin Rogers and Cynthia and Glenn Koepp.

The scholarship was awarded for study at N.C. State University.

Air Force Airman Robert B. Sorie graduated recently from eight weeks of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

He also received four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

He is the son of Ricky and Sandra Sorie of Nashville, and a 2006 graduate of the Faith Christian School in Rocky Mount.

Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church is holding its Vacation Bible School, "Galactic Blast, " this week. The children involved will take part in Sunday's service in celebration of the week's songs and activities.
