A Sidney man was shot four times during an incident early Sunday morning in the 1000 block of 13th Street S.W

Michael B. Shy 40, Sidney suffered gunshot wounds to the leg, hand, arm and facial area, according to police reports. Shy underwent surgery Sunday and was listed in stable condition at the Billings Clinic on Monday

Robert M. Escobedo, 51, Sidney, was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated burglary with a weapon and two counts of aggravated assault with a weapon.

Police received a report at 2:16 a.m. Sunday from a female that her ex-husband broke into her home armed with a rifle and handgun. She reported he had shot a male subject several times. The man was a visitor at the residence.

The woman was able to escape and call 9-1-1 on her cell phone.

The police and sheriff's deputies responded and took positions around the residence. Shy exited the residence and had obvious signs of injury according to police reports.

"He stated he was shot by the ex-husband," a police spokesman said.

Alone in the residence, Escobedo was contacted through phone by officers. He was making threats of taking his own life. After about an hour, police heard a gunshot. Officials, however, were able to make contact with Escobedo again, who said he shot his foot. It's unknown if the shot was intentional or an accident.

At 3:45 a.m., Escobedo came outside and was arrested. He is currently under custody while being treated at Sidney Health Center.

Sidney Police Chief Frank DiFonzo commends the police officers and sheriff's deputies for their work.

"They did an excellent job," DiFonzo said. "They contained the scene, and no one else was injured once they arrived."
