Detectives investigate shooting

Mason County sheriffs deputies responded to a reported shooting at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Wivell Road.
As a woman talked to 911 operators, she told them she had shot her husband with a .25-caliber handgun because he had been hitting her and tried throwing her out of the house. The woman also told dispatchers her husband had left the house, and she provided a physical description.
When the first deputy arrived in the area he saw a male along the road who matched the description given by the woman. The deputy contacted the man, who was identified as the woman's husband, a 65-year-old male who resides at the same address. According to sheriffs office reports, the male had what appeared to be at least two gunshot wounds to his leg. The man was conscious and alert, but appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was belligerent, according to the reports.
Investigation disclosed that the female had sustained a leg injury of some sort during the altercation, according to the reports. Both people were transported to Mason General Hospital by ambulance. The female was later transferred to St. Peter Hospital in Lacey.
Both people involved are claiming self-defense. As of this date, no arrests have been made. Sheriffs detectives continue investigating and sorting out the information they have received thus far. Both people have been treated and released from their respective hospitals.
