Each and every day the present economy is affecting Mason County residents. Loss of jobs, then loss of savings, assets and finally loss of the place they have called home. If they are lucky there will be a family or friend that will allow them to move in until circumstances change. If not, living in a car by day and a shelter by night becomes a part of their life. Children and family pets pay the price for this change of lifestyle. The children are protected as best the parents can, often the pets have to be abandoned. What can we as a community, do to help? Donate food to the food bank, donate items to our local shelter for displaced families, and donate gently used items to fundraisers for animal shelters. If you become a victim for the care of someone else's pet please be patient with our animal shelters. They are being overwhelmed with the flood of abandoned pets. Many of you are just a few paychecks away from the same plight. Our own county is suffering as much as some of the countries overseas, we just don't realize it.
