Jacob Holbrook, son of Rocky and Tami, and younger brother to John, is another example of a talented senior at Shelton High School, with a 3.1 grade-point average.

On campus, Holbrook is noted mostly for his participation on the football field. After suffering a kidney injury in his sophomore season, doctors discovered that he was born with only one kidney.

Holbrook missed the remainder of that season and was not cleared to play in his junior year.

Holbrook said that playing in his senior season for the Highclimbers meant that much more.

"You get something out of football that you can't find anywhere else," Holbrook said.

"It's a special bond between your teammates. I'm really glad I got to play my senior year and I don't regret it."

Outside of football and school, Holbrook formed a rap group with friend Robert Moliga, who was a former student at SHS before moving to Tacoma.

The two started doing freestyle rap in the back of their eighth-grade football team's bus years ago.

"We were just messing around and freestyling in the back of the bus," Holbrook said.

While it has never been a primary focus, but more for fun, Holbrook and Moliga's group, called Hata Proof, has had up to six members at different times.

"It's just whoever wants to rap with us," Holbrook said.

Holbrook's father, who is a musician who has played in several differ-ent cover bands, was a factor in the group being able to play better.

"We got a whole bunch of music equipment and started getting better at it," Holbrook said.

Holbrook said that he has picked up his father's passion for music.

"When I was younger I played the saxophone and played the guitar a little bit," Holbrook said.

"Him always being into music kind of got me into music."

Holbrook plans on Starting construction on a music studio in a 20×20-foot shed that will be later taken over by Moliga.

Holbrook hopes to eventually attend Washington State University after a stop at South Puget Sound Community College on the way to becoming a teacher.

"I was always kind of ahead in my class and helping out my peers," Holbrook said.

"It's always been kind of fun."
