Shelton grad named chamber director

This week the Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce named Heidi Mc-Cutcheon as its new executive director.

McCutcheon has worked as member services director for the chamber since 2010. "We found the best candidate within (the chamber)," chamber president Patti Case said.

McCutcheon said that her first goal would be to make her own workload more manageable.

"My first goal is to find an office manager so I have somebody holding down the fort," she said. "I'm the only person full time in the office right now. I'm wearing all the hats all the time."

When the chamber began its search for a new executive director after Terri Jeffries resigned in January, McCutcheon assumed many of the duties of the executive director.

"She more than proved herself during that time," Case said.

McCutcheon graduated from Shelton High School in 1996, then went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Concordia University in 2002. She moved back to Shelton with her husband in 2009.

"She is well known in the community and she knows the community well," Case said.

McCutcheon agreed that being very familiar with Shelton would help her be an effective director of the chamber.

"I think it's an absolute advantage being from here and knowing the lay of the land and many of the business owners," she said.

McCutcheon plans to continue working towards the goals already set forward by the chamber board, including increasing membership, and getting the chamber back on track after a long period without an executive director.

"So far it's been in a holding pattern," she said.

Initially, the chamber offered the job of executive director to Mike Morrissette, who had experience directing numerous chambers of commerce throughout Washington, but according to the chamber, during contract negotiations the two parties reportedly could not come to an agreement.
