New Main Street "sense of place" banners are now hanging along State Route 179 in Sedona. These banners, similar to the banners that are continuously displayed along State Route 89A in Uptown, are an immediate visual enhancement along the Red Rock Road, according to a press release.

Created by Sedona Main Street Program to enhance vitality and help connect the two main thoroughfares in the Main Street District, the banners were installed by the city this week in time for the Celebrate the Red Rock Road event Friday and Saturday, Aug. 20 and 21,

The city of Sedona coordinated efforts with the Sedona Main Street Program to get the banners placed prior to the weekend event.

The Sedona Main Street Program acquired a grant to produce the banners from the Arizona Department of Commerce and Arizona Main Street Program on April 1 this year. The grant was awarded based on Sedona Main Street Program's contribution of the design, a financial contribution from a local resort and the city's investment in banner brackets plus long-term operational costs for hanging the banners.

The welcoming banners carry encouraging messages such as "Shop & Dine," "Stay & Enjoy," "Tour & Explore" and "Relax & Rejuvenate" in the Main Street District. The 36 banners were prepared and waiting to be hung prior to the State Route 179 project completion. They will hang continuously, interspersed with special event banners.
