BBB releases info on inquiries, complaints

Better Business Bureau, Yavapai County Office, released second quarter statistics on inquiries and complaints on businesses in Yavapai County. A high number of inquiries in an industry can reflect consumer interest trends, strong marketing campaigns from a certain business or industry, or it can also be an indicator of seasonal activities, according to a press release.

"BBB has experienced an increase in the number of inquiries in health-related industries, such as health, vitamins and diet products," stated Mary Hawkes, Better, Business Bureau director of the Yavapai County Office. "This reflects a change from the second quarter of 2009 when eight of the top 10 most inquired about types of business were in the construction industry."

The following is a list of the top 10 most inquired about industries in Yavapai County April through June 2010:

? Wholesalers & distributors: 825

? Health & diet products-Retail: 814

? Advertising-direct mail: 763

? Alternative health care: 762

? Vitamins and food supplements: 742

? Doors: 577

? Windows: 556

? Windows-repairing: 546

? Doors-repair: 524

? Doors and operating devices: 502

Industries with high complaints might indicate consumer issues relating to sales, customer service or nondelivery of ordered items. BBB's Dispute Resolution program facilitates communication between consumers and businesses when a dispute arises.

to help ensure a satisfactory purchasing experience:

? If unfamiliar with a company, check with BBB www.arizonabbb.org for a Reliability Report before doing business with a company.

? If signing a contract, review closely and make sure all of your questions are answered to your satisfaction.

? Be sure all verbal promises are put in writing.

? Understand a company's return and refund policy before a purchase.

? If a dispute arises and a purchase has been made with a credit card, you might be able to dispute a charge through the credit card issuer.
