Charles Reinert ND, clinic coordinator announced that Helping To Heal natural therapies clinic in downtown Tracy has received private funding to donate vitamin D3 to expectant mothers of their service area.

"In the last 3 years, an increasing amount of research suggests that some of the damage done by Vitamin D deficiency <http://www.vitamindcoun-cil.org/vdds.shtml> is done in-utera, while the fetus is developing. Much of that damage: may be permanent, that is, it can not be fully reversed by taking Vitamin D after birth. This research indicates Vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy endangers the mother's life and health, and is the origin for a host of future perils for the child, especially for the child's brain and immune system <http://www.vita-mindcouncil.org/reference/ glossary-I.shtml#immune> Some of the damage done by maternal Vitamin D deficiency may not show up for 30 years", said Reinert, whose clinic has been emphasizing the importance of sufficient vitamin D for years. "In studies at the University of Michigan, the University of Pittsburg, and in the Netherlands, more than 95% of pregnant women showed vitamin D levels testing below 50 ng/ mL, the level that may indicate chronic substrate starvation for vitamin D. That is, they are using up any Vitamin D they have very quickly and do not have enough to store for future use. Very scary", said Reinert.

The Helping To Heal

clinic will be donating a standard bottle of vitamin D3 to each pregnant mother who visits the Tracy clinic, beginning September 1 and continuing as long as funds permit. "Because of generous contributions from some of our clients, we are able to provide a three month supply of vitamin D for our moms-to-be", said Reinert. "To save on shipping, we do ask that they stop at our clinic to pick it up. Moms will of course want to discuss their supplementation with their health care provider so that there is agreement as to dosage and need." For further information on the need for vitamin D3 in pregnancy, moms are advised to consult http://www.vitamin-dcouncil.org/newsletter/ pregnancy-and-gestational-vitamin-d-deficiency.shtml and call (507) 629 3900 before making the trip to Tracy to be certain of current supply.
