Two separate mobile home fires Sunday in Lakeview Terrace Trailer Park are currently under investigation, Grand Coulee Fire Chief Richard Paris stated Monday.

Both mobile homes, an unoccupied single-wide and a double-wide were destroyed.

Paris said a Lincoln County Sherriffs deputy is investigating the blazes.

The first fire was underway at 6:27 a.m. in an unoccupied single-wide trailer.

"When we arrived there was smoke coming out of the vents and eaves," Paris noted.

Firefighters cleared the scene in about an hour and a half, after keeping the blaze from spreading.

"There was significant fire damage to the center of the trailer and smoke damage throughout," Paris added. Three fire trucks, and an ambulance with a total of 12 firefighters and EMTs responded to the fire.

"The trailer was currently being worked on," Paris stated.

The second fire occurred at 11:22 p.m. on the other side of the trailer park.

The doublewide was fully engulfed in flames when units arrived. Two occupants were out of the house.

The two women had escaped with three dogs and a cat and little else after discovering the fire in a back bedroom and calling 911. There were two dogs and a cat unaccounted for.

Flames were already throughout the trailer and carport as firefighters arrived, but they kept the fire from spreading to adjacent properties amid continuous winds of 15 to 20 mph.

The second fire was attended by three fire trucks and an ambulance with 11 total personnel assisting. Grand Coulee was assisted by Coulee Dam, which sent two trucks and five fire fighters, and the Bureau of Reclamation, with a tender truck and three personnel.

The two occupants said the trailer was insured. They went to stay with relatives.

The fire fighting was hampered not only by the wind, Paris said, but also by numerous small explosions from oxygen tanks, propane and other household items that were heated by fire.

Fire fighters were on the scene until 5 a.m. There were no injuries.

Paris identified the home occupant only as Ms. Moody.
