Colorama underscores value of park

It's a long way from the perfect park, but another Colorama spent at North Dam Park really brings home the fact that the park is a community asset that should be preserved, even enhanced.

The city of Grand Coulee has not budgeted for its maintenance this summer, nor has the Bureau of Reclamation which owns the land that had been under lease to the city.

City workers did actually do some work to prepare the space for the Colorama festival, and the Rotary Club spruced it up a bit, too. But now that that major event is over, all bets are off on the future of the park.

It's time for citizens to tweak community leaders into coming up with an alternative for the park. We owe that much to those who believed it would always be a city park and so put much of their own sweat and faith into building it up, including the Softball diamonds, and, a little further back in history, a time capsule.

Don't let North Dam go to weeds.
