Glenn Anthony Raymond

The Star of Grand Coulee, Washington

Glenn Anthony Raymond, proud descendant of Skholaskin, a San Poil tribal chief, and Arrow Lakes and Okanogan ancestry, a resident of the Grand Coulee Dam area, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father, uncle and friend, entered into rest on Friday, June 4, 2010. Glenn was born May 31, 1945, in Brewster to Lucille and Alexander Raymond. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He received his BS degree in political science in 1972 from Central Washington University in Ellensburg, and completed a post graduate fellowship in 1987 at Amherst College in Amherst, Maine. Glenn had over 20 years of program management, educational administration, curriculum design, and grant writing experience. Past positions include, Assistant Professor at Gonzaga University in Spokane and Communication Arts Department Head/Professor at the Institute for American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M. His most recent position was Director of the Colville Tribal College in Nespelem. Glenn was also an artist - he was a nationally recognized film, video and television director and producer, with national credits on PBS and the National Corporation for Public Broadcasting. He worked on numerous commercials, music videos and documentaries. He served as a mentor (trained over 30 tribal members in video production) and advisor (1991 Sesame Street "Children's Television Workshop," New York, NY, and Sundance Film Institute, Santa Monica, Calif). Glenn was known for his love of movies and music. Glenn will be missed by all who knew him.

Glenn is survived by his wife Cheryl Raymond of Grand Coulee, sister Lucetta Raymond ofWenatchee; brother Larry Raymond of Coulee Dam; daughters: Kristal Chichlowska of Sacramento, Calif, Sandy Smith of San Antonio, Texas, Christina Malcolm,Tashana Stewart of Lynnwood, and Shannon Shisler of Sultan, Wash. One son George Raymond of Milesburg, Penn., four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Hank Raymond.

A rosary for Glenn was recited at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 8, at the Longhouse located at Paschal Sherman Indian School, Omak. The ceremony services and burial will commence the following day, Wednesday, June 9, in Monse, Wash., at 11 a.m. Glenn's care has been entrusted to Pratt Funeral Home in Okanogan.
