Airplane crashes near Keller

One person died and another was airlifted to a Spokane hospital with serious injuries after a small plane crashed on highway 21 near Keller early Tuesday morning.

Elwyn Fletcher, 65, of Mesa, Wash., died in the crash. Justin T. Marchand, 23, of Colfax and Keller, was airlifted to Spokane.

Tribal police said the crash occurred three miles north of Keller near mile post 119 at 6:45 a.m.

When officers arrived, they located the fixed wing, single-engine Cessna, which had landed in some power lines and was on the roadway.

The plane was registered to Fletcher Cattle Co., of Mesa, Washington.

Marchand was Med-flighted to an undisclosed hospital in Spokane with serious injuries.

Fletcher was declared dead at the crash site.

The Colville Tribal police notified the Federal Aviation Administration of the accident and are working with its investigators. The cause of the accident is not known.
