Young man dies after fight with viral infection

CopyA young man around whom the community rallied in May has died.
Ben Flores, an athletic 20-year-old, was hospitalized after a virus attacked his heart and other organs. He died July 5.
An obituary is published on page 4.
Flores needed a heart transplant, and community fund-raising efforts have been ongoing to help with those expenses.
Karen Payne, who spearheaded much of the effort, said sorting out what to do with those funds, which totalled nearly $20,000 will happen with legal advice sometime after the funeral.
She said she would like to see it go to some cause of which "Lil Ben" would have approved, such as a scholarship fund, or to some kind of memorial. She would like Flores' friends to have opportunity to provide suggestions.
